Google Doodle Honors Puerto Rican Activist In National Hispanic Heritage Month

Felicitas Mendez was featured on a Google Doodle on Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2020, the primary day of Nationwide Hispanic Heritage Month within the U.S.

Information Americas, NEW YORK, NY, Weds. Sept. 15, 2020: Google’s doodle on Tuesday honored a Puerto Rican activist on the primary day of Nationwide Hispanic Heritage Month.

Google honored Puerto Rican civil rights pioneer Felicitas Mendez, who helped lead the struggle to finish segregation in California faculties. Within the drawing that appeared on Google’s homepage Sept. 15, a smiling Mendez is proven watching a crowd of completely happy kids of all races stroll into a faculty. Her three kids, led by her husband Gonzalo, are amongst them.

The Puerto Rican immigrant and her husband Gonzalo took on California college segregation legal guidelines after their three kids had been denied entry at a neighborhood elementary college due to their pores and skin colour in 1944.Their case, Mendez v. Westminster, led to the top of public college segregation in California and paved the way in which for the federal Brown v. Board of Schooling, which ended college segregation throughout the nation.

Together with the doodle, Google featured a three-minute documentary analyzing Mendez’ story and the case, with pictures and video clips of Mendez and the household, together with her daughter, Sylvia Mendez. USA, LLC
