Hong Kong activist Joshua Wong quits pro-democracy group as China passes security law – National

Hong Kong activist Joshua Wong stated on Tuesday he’s stepping down as chief of his democracy group Demosisto, simply hours after native media reported that Beijing had handed nationwide safety laws for the Chinese language-ruled metropolis.

Wong has stated he can be a “prime goal” of Beijing’s nationwide safety regulation, which critics worry will crush freedoms within the former British colony.

“If my voice won’t be heard quickly, I hope that the worldwide neighborhood will proceed to talk up for Hong Kong and step up concrete efforts to defend out final little bit of freedom,” Wong wrote in a tweet.
